Apple boosts Indian manufacturing investment with new supplier Education Hub

Apple’s $50 Million Global Investment in Supplier Workforce Development

Apple has unveiled plans to inaugurate its inaugural Education Hub in India, marking a significant expansion of its supplier training efforts within the country.

Situated in Bengaluru, this new center will be established in partnership with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), with courses scheduled to commence in March.

According to Apple:

“Through collaboration with MAHE, the Education Hub will create a collaborative environment where trainers and learners engage directly with experts specializing in digital education. Initial offerings will focus on foundational digital literacy and introductory Swift programming. MAHE faculty will train supplier trainers, empowering them to educate larger groups of employees effectively.”

Moreover, Apple is set to enhance its training curriculum for supplier employees throughout its manufacturing network. As highlighted in the announcement:

“Beginning with Tata Electronics, the updated curriculum aims to equip supplier employees with competencies in digital literacy, Swift coding, robotics, automation, and smart manufacturing techniques. These initiatives are part of Apple’s broader $50 million Supplier Employee Development Fund.”

Additionally, Apple plans to expand its Vocational Education program for Persons with Disabilities in India later this year. This program has already supported over 18,000 supplier employees worldwide.

This expansion will extend the program’s reach to more supplier sites across India, offering enhanced training and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, while also advancing safety, accessibility, and inclusivity standards at supplier locations.
