The Cyberspace Administration of China (Cyberspace Administration of China) and the Ministry of Public Security jointly released regulations on facial recognition technology applications that will come into effect on June 1, 2019. According to an announcement by the authorities, the new regulations are intended to standardize the processing of facial data using facial recognition technology and to protect personal information rights. The document outlines basic requirements, processing rules and security standards for facial recognition applications. Personal information processors are required to complete record-filing with the local cyberspace administrative at the provincial or higher level within 30 working days after the stored facial data processed by facial recognition technology reaches 100,000 people.[
