Situated within a prominent shopping mall in Wuhan’s East Lake High-Tech Development Zone, also known as China’s Optics Valley, the store is operated by the Hubei Humanoid Robot Innovation Centre. Since its debut in November 2025, it has become a landmark destination for both residents and visitors eager to experience cutting-edge robotics firsthand.
Rapid Growth in China’s Humanoid Robotics Sector
China’s humanoid robot industry has witnessed remarkable expansion, fueled by supportive government policies outlined in the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), which emphasize embodied AI and advanced manufacturing as key drivers of future economic growth. The Wuhan 7S store exemplifies efforts to commercialize humanoid robots and gauge consumer acceptance in diverse markets.
Visitor Engagement and Commercial Success
Store manager Hu Longdan reports that within just two months, the store attracted nearly 18,000 visitors, generating close to 615,000 yuan (approximately R1.4 million) in revenue. Humanoid robots have become highly sought-after for event rentals, having participated in over ten commercial occasions. Interactive experiences featuring robot dogs and robot soccer matches have particularly resonated with younger audiences.
Diverse Robot Models and Applications
The store showcases 17 distinct humanoid robot models, with prices ranging from 149 yuan to 700,000 yuan. These robots serve multiple industries, including manufacturing automation, cultural tourism, eldercare, and specialized operational tasks. Demonstrations include robots playing musical instruments, assisting customers, and engaging in sports activities, highlighting their versatility.
Educational Initiatives: Bridging Skills Gaps
Uniquely, the Wuhan 7S store incorporates a dedicated schooling function, addressing the critical need for skill development in robotics operation and maintenance. This hands-on learning center offers training programs for robotics operators, certification courses for maintenance technicians, and introductory robotics education for teenagers.
To date, over 1,000 participants have benefited from 20 training sessions, including youth workshops, operator training, and teacher development programs. Approximately 65% of attendees are students building foundational knowledge, while the remaining 35% comprise professionals such as engineers and educators seeking advanced operational skills.
Supporting Local Innovation and Industry Integration
The store also highlights the region’s robust robotics supply chain. A standout exhibit near the entrance is Yuan You (Far Traveller), a 158cm tall, 72kg wheel-footed robot developed locally. Capable of moving at 1.5 meters per second, Yuan You has been deployed for nine months at a hospital in Xianning, Hubei, where it provides patient guidance, explanations, and even traditional moxibustion therapy.

The Wuhan 7S store is part of a broader national trend toward robot-themed retail spaces designed to accelerate the adoption of humanoid robots. For instance, Shenzhen launched the world’s first robot 6S store in July 2025, followed by Beijing’s expansive 4,000-square-meter Robot Mall, which debuted during a robotics consumption festival and features over 50 products spanning medical, industrial, and companion robots.

Industry forecasts predict that by 2045, China will deploy more than 100 million humanoid robots across various sectors, generating a market value nearing 10 trillion yuan.
