China’s GAC has begun taking pre-orders of its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOLs), air taxi, GOVY AirCab. The price is RMB 1,68 million ($234,000). The vehicle was unveiled at the International Automotive and Supply Chain Expo in Hong Kong on Thursday. The unmanned, multirotor aircraft, which is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026 and can be fully recharged in 25 minutes, is 90% carbon fibre and can charge within 25 minutes. The pilot service will begin in the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau later this year. GAC isn’t the only Chinese automaker stepping up efforts to build its own eVTOLs. Beijing wants to boost the country’s “low-altitude economies” where electric aircraft can be widely used to transport passengers in low-altitude areas. Changan Automobile announced at the IASC Expo that it will complete its first test flight by the end this year.[TechNodereportingGAC release in Chinese]
