Chinese Food Delivery Service http Ele.me deployed 6 Unitree robots in Hangzhou, including Xixi, Zijin, and Tianjie Malls, on May 6. The campaign was themed air-land sea and featured drones and helicoptors. The company stated that it wanted to highlight Hangzhou’s tech appeal through a bold city-themed advertisement. The campaign coincides the recent upgrade by owner Alibaba of Taobao’s instant retail service, from “Hourly Delivery” to “Taobao Flash Sale,” a name which officially launched on May 2. Ele.me, which is also the core business of Alibaba’s instant retail unit, provided logistical support to non-food delivery. Taobao Flash Sale will offer consumers subsidies worth more than RMB10 billion, including coupons and free orders, as part of its promotions to celebrate the new name. Ele.me’s network of delivery drivers will be used to provide rapid delivery from 200 flagship stores, in partnership with top brands and city-based warehouses. iThome in Chinese
