Mercedes-Benz Enters Robotics With “Apollo’s” Unveiling (Video)

Published:

Mercedes-Benz, which is known for its humanoid robots and has invested heavily in Apptronik (an American company), to improve their production processes, has made a significant investment.

Apptronik is currently testing its robots, called Apollo, in factories in Berlin and Kecskemet in Hungary. The goal is to automate repetitive and physically demanding jobs.

The Apollo robots are 173 cm high and weigh 73kg. They can carry up to 25kg. Their primary tasks are to move components onto the production lines and perform initial quality checks on parts. These robots can be trained using augmented reality and teleoperation, allowing them to learn specific tasks they can perform autonomously. If they run out, they can plug into a charger to recharge.

Mercedes-Benz can automate repetitive or dangerous tasks with the help of humanoid robotics, such as Apollo. This is especially true in areas where labor is scarce. The technology allows employees the opportunity to focus on more creative and complex tasks while robots handle more physically demanding tasks.
