The Rocket City Regional, Alabama’s annual For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Robotics Regional Competition, is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 14 through Saturday, march 15 at the Von Braun Center South Hall, Huntsville, Alabama.
The FIRST Robotics global robotics competition is for students in grades 9-12. Teams must raise funds, create a team logo, develop teamwork skills and build and program industrial robots in order to compete against other teams. District and regional competitions, such as the Rocket City Regional, are held across the nation in March and April. These competitions give teams the chance to qualify for 2025 FIRST Robotics Championship events in Houston in mid-April.
High school students from 44 different teams from 10 states and two countries will compete in the new robotics game, “REEFSCAPE.” This event is open to all. Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:30 am CDT, followed by qualification matches March 14 and 15. The Friday awards will start at 5:45 pm, while the Saturday award ceremony will start at 1:30 pm.
NASA’s Robotics Alliance Project provides grants to high school teams, as well as support for FIRST Robotics Competitions, in order to address the critical shortage of STEM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) career-seeking students. NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, located in Huntsville, Alabama and NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement support the Rocket City Regional Competition.
