A Nigerian mathematics, Dr. Amanze Egere has achieved global recognition for his work in robotics. He used wavelets, an advanced mathematical tool, to revolutionize the way smart machines process data and make decisions. Dr. Egere is a lecturer and research fellow at Purdue University in the USA. He is also a lecturer at Redeemer’s University in Ede.

Dr. Egere’s recent Purdue programme, entitled “Mathematical Analysis & Robotic Intelligence: Wavelets in Multiscale signal Processing and Control”, explored how wavelets are a special mathematical function that can analyse signals at multiple scales and is essential for robotic control and real time decision-making. Wavelets are a mathematical lens that allows us to filter out noise, and zoom in on relevant signal. This is a critical advantage for real-time robotic decisions.

With a background in pure mathematics and a specialization in functional analysis and waves, Dr. Egere now applies these theoretical foundations to the field of robotics. This field is increasingly demanding precise control and advanced signals interpretation. His research focuses on how robots could make more intelligent and faster decisions by using mathematical tools that are beyond traditional techniques. Wavelets are better at handling sudden changes in robots’ environments than conventional models. Wavelets can help autonomous vehicles react to unexpected obstacles or guide a robotic arm in sorting fragile materials.

“Robots must today process floods noisy data from cameras and microphones. Wavelets filter out noise and extract useful details at different levels of detail. This leads to a smarter, more responsive behaviour.

In addition, he is working to cultivate a young generation of robotics researches in West Africa. He is involved in collaborations that cross borders to expand robotics education and opportunities for research in the region.

He added, “We don’t just use these technologies..We help to create them.”
