What just happened? Microsoft brought its Xbox App to Samsung TVs first in 2022 and then expanded to Amazon Fire TVs by 2023. It’s now adding select LG Smart TVs to its lineup, giving users hundreds of games via cloud-streaming – no console needed.

Users will need an LG TV that is compatible, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscription, and a Bluetooth-enabled Xbox controller to stream
Xbox Games. Xbox Elite Series 2 and PlayStation 5 DualSense are supported. Xbox Cloud Gaming is now available on select 2023 LG Smart Televisions, most 2024-2025 sets including smart monitors that run webOS24 and newer. Microsoft plans to support StanbyME’s rollable smart touchscreen television soon. Microsoft’s website has a complete list of supported models.

With this update, LG TV owners can stream some of the most popular titles in the Game Pass Ultimate catalogue, including Avowed and South of Midnight. They can also stream upcoming titles such as Towerborne. Users can also stream Xbox titles they already own. Microsoft gave examples such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows NBA 2K25 and Hogwarts Legacy.

Users will be able to access the Xbox app through the LG gaming portal, which is located on the TV’s main page under the gaming card. Users of webOS 24 and newer devices must download the Xbox App from the app store. Microsoft stated that select 2023 SmartTVs and 2022 OLED Televisions must have the most recent firmware to access this feature. Newer models, such as the 2024 and 2025 ones, are likely to be compatible right out of the box. Installed, users simply sign in to their Microsoft account and pair up a controller.

The Xbox Cloud Gaming catalogue now contains nearly 400 titles, including Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto V. It also includes Forza Horizon 5, Rainbow Six Siege (for Forza Horizon 5), Madden 25, Halo Infinite, and Forza Horizon 5. The service offers day-one access to selected new Xbox releases. Microsoft hopes to reach a wider audience by launching its cloud gaming service on LG TVs, and other devices that run webOS.
