I.F. Robotics team continues to excel with state championship

Student robotics club based in Clark County has qualified for the world championships

A local robotics team that was featured in Clark County Today in December continues to roll, earning a Triple Crown at a recent competition.

I.F. Robotics, a community team from Vancouver, won the state championship outright on Feb. 1 in Seattle, and it also took home the Inspire Award for best overall team, and it broke three FIRST Tech Challenge world records. FIRST Tech is for competitions for students from the seventh grade to 12th grade. 

I.F. Robotics had the No. 1 match score in the world out of 26,000 matches, the No. 1 OPR in the world out of 7,000 teams, and No. 1 Auto in the world. OPR is a mathematical measure of a robot’s ability to score. Auto is the robot’s ability to score autonomously, without human control.

I.F. Robotics is short for I Forgot. It is a reminder that everyone forgets and makes mistakes, and that is OK. The idea is to learn from mistakes and make progress.

The I.F. Robotics team has advanced to the FIRST World Championships. It is believed that I.F. Robotics is the first team from Southwest Washington to advance to the world in six years.
