Role Overview: Early Engineer at Mbodi

As an early engineering hire, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and deploying state-of-the-art machine learning models and autonomous AI agents that drive robotic learning and behavior. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence our technology stack, company culture, and strategic direction from inception.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in applied research at the nexus of generative AI and robotics, focusing on practical models and systems that function effectively in dynamic, real-world settings.
  • Develop and refine algorithms for robot perception, planning, skill acquisition, and generalization across diverse and complex tasks.
  • Engineer scalable, resilient systems that bridge foundational AI models with dependable physical execution, transforming theoretical advances into tangible outcomes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with machine learning, robotics, and product teams to enhance agent orchestration and integrate intelligent systems seamlessly.
  • Lead technical strategy, architectural design, and research initiatives from the outset, shaping the future trajectory of our platform.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated expertise in AI, robotics, machine learning, or autonomous agent systems.
  • Proficient in Python and PyTorch, with hands-on experience in training, validating, and deploying neural network models.
  • Familiarity with contemporary ML methodologies such as transformers, diffusion models, vision-language models, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, or foundational robotic models.
  • Proven track record of delivering end-to-end systems beyond isolated model training.
  • Comfortable navigating across diverse components including models, data pipelines, APIs, evaluation frameworks, and runtime environments.
  • Strong commitment to system reliability, low latency, observability, and correctness in production-grade applications.
  • Analytical mindset focused on identifying failure modes, handling edge cases, and ensuring robust system performance under stress.
