A group of scientists and students at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands has won the A2RL Drone Championship, an international race in Abu Dhabi that challenges teams to fly fully-autonomous drones with only a single video camera. The TU Delft robot competed against 13 autonomous and human drone racing champions using innovative methods for training deep neural networks to achieve high-performance control.
RAI’s Ultra Mobile Vehicle is learning new tricks!
With its 28 moving joints (20 QDD motors + 8 servomotors), Cosmo is able to walk on two feet at a speed up to 1 m/s (0,5 m/s nominal), and can balance itself when pushed. Cosmo’s voice is loud and expressive and can be controlled by its head, finger, arms, and legs. Cosmo uses canned phrases from the 90s cartoon from which he originated. His speech can be localized into any language.

Parallel Systems was first mentioned in January 2022. It’s great to see their innovative approach to autonomous rail is still progressing.
RoboCake has been prepared. This edible robotic cake was created by researchers from EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (IIT), and pastry chefs and food scientist from EHL Lausanne. It is a robotic wedding, decorated with two gummy robot bears and edible dark-chocolate batteries that power the candle.

ROBOTERA’s five-finger dexterous, self-developed hand has upgraded its abilities and transformed into an esports glove in a blink of an eye! The XHAND1 is the first direct-drive joint in the industry to feature 12 active degrees. It provides exceptional flexibility and sensitivity for precision tasks such as finger opposition, picking soft objects up, and grabbing card. It also has a powerful grip strength, with a maximum load of nearly 25 kg, making it adaptable for a variety of complex application scenarios.

Extend Robotics tests their cutting-edge humanoid in Leyland factories. In this video, you can see the robot connect a master service unit–a crucial task in factory operations. Watch workers on site seamlessly collaborate with the robotic system using an intuitive XR interface (extended reality), blending human expertise and robotic precision.
I like the idea of a mobile robot living in my garage to charge and clean my car.

What can we do to ensure that robots using foundational models, such as large-language models (LLMs), don’t “hallucinate”, when performing tasks in complex environments, which they have never seen before? Safe and Assured Foundation Robots for Open Environments Advanced Research Concept (ARC), seeks ideas on how to ensure robots only behave as directed & planned.

Wouldn’t it be great if chores could be done as easily as flipping a light switch? In this talk, roboticist Bernt Bornich, founder of 1X, introduces NEO, an intelligent robot that can help you around the house. Watch NEO demonstrate its ability to vacuum and water plants, while Bornich shares the story of its creation and shares his vision for robot assistants that could free your time to focus more on what matters.
Rodney Brooks delivered a keynote address at the Stanford spring conference on Robotics and a Human-Centered world.
You can find a lot of great talks from this conference at the YouTube link below. But I think this panel, which discusses how to move from research to impact in real life, is particularly good.
