SHENZHEN – On August 6, 2025, DJI, the renowned Chinese leader in drone technology, officially announced its expansion into the smart home cleaning sector by unveiling its inaugural line of robotic vacuum cleaners. This strategic move marks DJI’s diversification beyond aerial technology into domestic automation solutions.

Introducing the DJI ROMO Series: A Fusion of Advanced Robotics and Home Cleaning

The newly launched DJI ROMO Series combines sweeping, mopping, and sophisticated navigation features into a single device. Leveraging DJI’s cutting-edge environmental sensing and intelligent route-planning technologies-originally engineered for drone flight control-the ROMO vacuums promise enhanced efficiency and precision in household cleaning tasks.

From Skies to Floors: Applying Drone Expertise to Domestic Robotics

Zhang Xiaonan, DJI’s spokesperson based in Shenzhen, highlighted the parallels between aerial and floor-based navigation systems. “Although the home environment differs significantly from the airspace, the core principles of intelligent navigation, environmental awareness, and precise maneuvering remain consistent,” Zhang explained. This expertise enables DJI to tackle the complexities of robotic vacuuming with innovative solutions that improve operational intelligence and cleaning effectiveness.

Global Market Outlook and Competitive Landscape

DJI plans to introduce the ROMO Series to international markets within 2025, though exact launch dates and regions are yet to be disclosed. According to recent data from IDC, worldwide shipments of robotic vacuum cleaners are projected to reach 20.6 million units by the end of 2024, reflecting an 11.2% increase compared to the previous year. The first quarter of 2025 saw shipments climb to 5.1 million units, marking an 11.9% year-over-year growth.

Chinese manufacturers continue to dominate this sector, with brands such as Roborock, Ecovacs, Dreame, and Xiaomi securing four of the top five positions in shipment volumes globally. DJI’s entry into this competitive market underscores the growing convergence of drone technology and smart home automation.
