Windsor’s Growing Hub for Collectors and Competitive Gamers

The second annual “The Summoning” convention drew hundreds of enthusiasts to St. Clair College’s Saints Esports Nexus Arena on August 23, 2025. This vibrant event celebrated the convergence of esports, trading card games, robotics, and immersive historical reenactments, creating a dynamic environment for both seasoned players and newcomers.

Building a Thriving Community Through Shared Passions

Jeremy Richard, co-host of The Summoning, emphasized the event’s mission to nurture and expand the local gaming community. “Our goal is to foster a welcoming space where people can enjoy themselves and discover new interests,” Richard explained. “Reflecting on my own childhood, I realize how impactful such experiences would have been. Now, as a parent of four, I’m committed to providing these opportunities for the next generation.”

Windsor’s Emergence as a Competitive Gaming Powerhouse

Windsor is rapidly establishing itself as a significant center for both traditional and digital gaming. Richard noted, “Our city rivals larger urban centers like London in terms of the skill level and dedication of our players.” The event featured approximately $11,000 in prize money awarded across various Trading Card Game (TCG) tournaments, underscoring the competitive spirit thriving within the community.

Inclusive Experiences for All Ages and Interests

Beyond the fierce competitions, The Summoning offers a diverse range of activities designed to engage families and individuals with varying interests. “We encourage families to explore the robotics exhibits, witness the Viking reenactments, and enjoy the many facets of the event,” Richard said. “Even those unfamiliar with video games or TCGs will find something captivating here.”

Expansive Gaming and Interactive Opportunities

The convention showcased an extensive lineup of gaming formats, including video games, board games, and robotics demonstrations. Attendees participated in esports tournaments and cosplay contests, while also engaging with cutting-edge technology. New to this year’s event were interactive robot programming challenges, presented by Genio Tech Robotics and FIRST Robotics, offering hands-on STEM learning experiences.

Immersive Historical Elements Enhance the Experience

Upon entering the venue, visitors were greeted by members of the Essex Medieval Heritage Society and the Rósstad Norsefolk Viking group. These historical reenactors provided an authentic glimpse into Viking culture, complete with shield walls and combat demonstrations. One notable participant, Jarl Ingvar Ragnarson (real name Michael Reeve), prepared for battle with traditional sword and shield, adding a rich cultural layer to the event’s atmosphere.
