Hankook Unveils Futuristic Mobility Concepts at 2025 Design Innovation Day
Revolutionizing Tyre Technology with 3D-Printed Sustainable Solutions
At the 2025 Design Innovation Day, Hankook, a leader in premium tyre manufacturing, showcased two groundbreaking concepts that envision the future of mobility. Central to these innovations is the Sustainable Concept Tyre, crafted through advanced 3D printing technology. This tyre is constructed layer by layer using recycled and renewable materials, embodying eco-friendly principles and inspired by natural efficiency in its tread design.
Developed in partnership with engineering firm Harvestance and utilizing Ntop software, this prototype emphasizes resource-conscious manufacturing, enhanced durability, and straightforward recyclability. By integrating sustainable materials and additive manufacturing, Hankook aims to set new standards for environmentally responsible tyre production.
Introducing the PathCruizer: A Robotic Pod with Omni-Directional Mobility
Complementing the tyre innovation, Hankook revealed the PathCruizer, a compact two-seater pod powered by the WheelBot 2 robotic platform. Equipped with unique spherical wheels capable of moving in any direction, the PathCruizer can glide sideways, diagonally, or rotate on the spot with remarkable precision.
This advanced maneuverability makes the PathCruizer ideal for navigating complex environments such as airport boarding bridges or bustling urban transit hubs, where space and flexibility are critical. The development of this technology was a collaborative effort with robotics startup CALMANTECH, highlighting Hankook’s commitment to integrating robotics and mobility solutions.

Collaborative Innovation with Global Design and Technology Leaders
These projects are part of Hankook’s ongoing “Design Innovation Project,” initiated in 2012 to foster collaboration with top-tier design institutions worldwide. Partners include the University of Cincinnati, the Royal College of Art in London, and Pforzheim University in Germany. The initiative also benefits from the expertise of technology leaders such as LG Electronics, Rainbow Robotics, and CALMANTECH.
Hankook’s dedication to pioneering design and technology has earned recognition through prestigious awards like the Red Dot Award, iF Design Award, and IDEA Award, underscoring the impact and excellence of their innovations.
Annual Forum to Showcase Cutting-Edge Mobility Innovations
The Design Innovation Day serves as an annual platform for Hankook to present its latest advancements that blend design, innovation, and sustainability. It also aims to strengthen partnerships with technology collaborators. The 2025 event took place at Hankook’s Technoplex headquarters in Pangyo, South Korea, reinforcing the company’s role as a hub for future mobility solutions.
